| Having spent the
past 10 years with a breed that is prone to cancer, particularly bone
cancer, I had always steeled myself to the possibility that "The
Big C" might strike one of my Great Danes. But nothing prepared me
for hearing that my little mixed breed, 30 lb. fuzzball, Pooh, had
osteosarcoma in her hip. She was only 11, after all, and that's not old
for a little dog!
As my mind twisted around the fact that the pain Pooh had been experiencing was something far worse than the strained back I had suspected it to be, and the shock of it hit me, my vets next words just about made me drop to the floor... "There's nothing we can do for her. You might as well just let her go." WHAT? Did he really just say that? He's just giving up on her?... Not my little Pooh-bear! That was 11 weeks ago. We've played with her pain medication, adjusted her supplements, held her close while she went through seizures from one of the pain medications, and got her up and back on her feet and doing much better. I know she won't be here forever, but she's still bright and perky and the sweet little snuggle dog that will steal anyone's heart. I'd like to thank many of my friends for guiding me to some of the articles and information I have listed. Ruby, as always, you're research is astounding - thank you so much for ALL the information. Kelly, thanks for the shoulder - sometimes that's the best gift anyone can give. Cindy, thanks for the contacts, and for reliving the pain you went through with Sly to be able to give me the list of vets you tried. Lisa, as always - thanks for letting me vent when I needed to, and for being there. For anyone dealing specifically with bone cancer (osteosarcoma), I recommend these two email lists on Yahoo: Unfortunately, Pooh lost her battle with osteosarcoma on October 28th. 15 weeks and 5 days post diagnosis. She was bright and happy up until the very last hour, but ultimately her body failed her and I made the difficult decision to let her go. While she was not a good patient, and we weren't able to effectively try the Artemisinin Protocol simply because she refused to take the pills, I hope the information at your right can help someone find some hope in treating, stopping or arresting this horrible disease. No one should ever have to go through this with their beloved pet! Not ever! |

If you are looking for a beautiful memorial stone for your pets, I highly recommend Etched in Time. They did a remarkable job with a simple photo of my sweet little Pooh. Below is the proof they sent. And the actual stone is just as striking! Click on Pooh to go to their website.
